A Workshop with Dr. Rory & Dr. Meredith Hiltbrand at The Qi Center

This past Saturday, the Qi Center welcomed Dr. Rory Hiltbrand for a beautiful and deeply educational workshop: From Wuji to Taiji – The Way Between Heaven and Earth.

We first met on the stoop at 26 West 8th Street in NYC’s West Village, in front of the Qi Center. Rory and his dear wife and business partner, Dr. Meredith Hiltbrand, waited patiently for me to arrive—just a little late after a slow, grounding morning at home.

As we practiced mastering energy and intention, we gathered and rolled into the studio to begin.

Rory, a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Daoist Traditions College, has a profound passion for decoding the timeless wisdom of the Dao through the lens of modern mathematics and physics. He’s a true bridge between ancient cosmology and grounded science.

The studio was filled with Qigong enthusiasts—from NYC, Philadelphia, and beyond—all ready to dive into the Dao, the Qi, and the mathematics of it all. We began with a one-hour lecture that sparked thoughtful questions and soul-level sharing from many in the room.

A break followed—sunlight pouring into the studio’s backyard, joyful conversations, light snacks—and then we circled up for the movement portion of the workshop.

Meredith guided us in a gentle Qi shake, inviting us to let go of the theory and return to the body. Then Rory led us through the master practices of Dong Han Daoist cosmological movement—where pure consciousness takes form and our attention shapes our physical vitality.

I sat across the room, an empty cup, taking in the balancing forces of nature. Rory moved with quiet focus and deep intention, while Meredith flowed with joy and ease through the same forms. It was a poetic mirror—intensity and softness, structure and surrender.

Both Rory and Meredith hold their doctorates in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and view health through a beautiful lens of thought, behavior, biochemistry, and the environment. They met at Daoist Traditions and clearly carry the wisdom of that path into every word and gesture.

As Rory said (if I remember correctly):
"We must be present in agreement with our heart to be able to sit and meditate."

This wasn’t just a workshop—it was a lesson in life, in love, in presence. If we open our hearts to listen and receive, everything becomes a teacher.

We truly hope to welcome Rory and Meredith back to the Qi Space soon to share more of their wisdom with our community.
